Community Council Objectives
In less stilted words we will listen to any subject raised by concerned resident, discus the concern openly and if appropriate alert and transmit these concerns to the correct authority or otherwise seek to ameliorate the concern.
We at Livingston Village Community Council are one of the smaller councils in West Lothian covering around 2,700 residents. We were set up in January 2011 and are thus considered a very young CC and thus we are still on a learning curve for the vast range of topics that could cross our paths
There are 41 councils within West Lothian of which unfortunately there are 5 not in operation at present and 4 of these are in Livingston. The CC representing the largest number of residents is Bathgate with 21,000. So the range of activities and debates can vary enormously for area to area.
In the past at LVCC we have
- To ascertain, coordinate and reflect the views of the community which it represents, to liaise with other community groups within the area and to fairly express the diversity of opinions and outlooks of the people.
- To express the views of the community to the local authority for the area to public authorities and other organisation.
- To take such action in the interests of the community as appears to it to be desirable and practical.
- To promote the well-being of the community and to foster community spirit.
- To be a means whereby the people of the area shall be able to voice their opinions on matters affecting their lives, their welfare, their environment, its development and amenity.
